Title: Imagining Governance in 2050

Target Audience

Although the workshop is a hands-on experience that produces a report with future scenarios on democracy and governance, any participant profile can contribute. The workshop can run with up to 30 people; if more people are expected, a participant selection will be necessary. We aim to value participants' diversity rather than specific profiles (i.e., various ages, geographic origins, and fields of expertise).

Importance of Topic

This half-day workshop is designed as a participative experience. Anyone, regardless of their experience in governance and democracy, is welcome to join the workshop, as a wide range of expertise can benefit the results and the experience. Participants with submissions in digital ethics, eGovernance, eDemocracy, eParticipation, and education are particularly welcomed.

Introduction to future design (30 minutes)
Group formation, specific topic, and role selection (15 minutes)
Weak signals and trends identification (40 minutes) - includes AI tools
Future Hypothesis creation (20 minutes)
Drivers identification (20 minutes)
Scenarios creation and hypothesis iteration (40 minutes) - includes AI tools

Tutorial Instructors

Prof. Jan Ferrer i Picó is a researcher and designer at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and co-founder of the Institut pel Futur (Catalan Institute for the Future). Jan Ferrer i Picó graduated in Industrial Design Engineering at the Hague University of Applied Sciences (The Netherlands) and later on obtained a master's degree in Design, Technology, and Innovation from the Polytechnical University of Catalonia and The University of Barcelona. Currently, they are also studying an MPhil in philosophy applied to contemporary challenges at the Open University of Catalonia.
Josep Maria Monguet i Fierro is an engineer and professor at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and coordinator of the Innovation stream of the “Master on Advanced Studies in Design - Barcelona.” He has worked on numerous projects of innovation in the healthcare sector, where he facilitated innovation workshops with a future focus. He is a co-founder of SmartDelphi, a digital tool to facilitate consensus in synchronous and asynchronous participatory processes.
Michelle Catta-Preta is an architect and PhD candidate at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya on design methodologies for non-designers. Michelle is also a co-founder of Innex Labs and SmartDelphi. Over the recent years, she has facilitated multiple service design projects and given some future design workshops centered on designing innovative healthcare online services.
Alex Trejo Omeñaca is an engineer, associate professor at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and co-founder of Onsanity Solutions. He is a developer of SmartDelphi, and over the last months, he has facilitated creative workshops on Generative Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare.
